Kemet, located along the Nile River, is the name the Ancient ‘Egyptians’ used when referring to their civilization and land. The people who lived in Ancient ‘Egypt’ did not refer to their land as Egypt. Egypt, which comes from Aigyptos, is the name the Greeks used to refer to the land of Kemet. Therefore, the correct name for this historic civilization is Kemet.
Kemet means ‘The Black Land’ referring to the rich, fertile, and dark soil of the land as well as the darker skin tones of the people.
From Kemet, as well as from various other Nile Valley Civilizations, Afrikans began migrating across the continent into West, Central, and South Africa.
Below are images the people of Kemet illustriously painted, on the walls of their magnificent buildings, of themselves.
“The world today is indebted to us for the benefits of civilization. They stole our arts and sciences from Africa. Then why should we be ashamed of ourselves?” - Marcus Garvey
